South Africa Rotting from the Inside Out

The Truth About Crime We Can’t Ignore Anymore

Proactive Security Risk Assessment—It’s time we stopped sugarcoating the truth. South Africa is not just facing a crime problem; it’s being consumed by it. From the top of our political system to the very hospitals where our children are born, the rot has spread. Organized crime is not a future threat; it’s here. It’s now. It’s at your front door.

We recently conducted an independent security risk assessment for a corporate office in Sandton, identifying risks that standard assessments often fail to address. This approach allows us to recommend practical measures that enhance the overall safety and security of the premises.

If you would like to learn more about our assessments or have specific topics you would like us to cover, please email your suggestions to andre@alwinco.co.za. We will create and publish articles on our website tailored to your interests.

We’re not just talking about hijackings, robberies, or petty theft.

We’re talking about syndicates that run through our police force, our legal system, our schools, hospitals, tenders, municipalities, and even the people we vote for. A confidential briefing has now exposed communication between top officials, criminal contractors, and politicians, a web of corruption so deep it actively shut down a task team investigating political killings. Fellow South Africans, when a crime happens, it is already too late. Let that sink in. No amount of insurance, panic buttons, or sympathy on social media can undo death. We are on our own, and we must start acting like it.

So, what can we do?

Start with knowledge.
Security is not a product you buy or a guard you post at a gate. Real security begins with a proper independent security risk assessment, a deep, investigative look at where you are vulnerable, how crime sees your environment, and how to take back control.

We cannot wait for the government. We cannot rely on police stations that are underfunded, undermanned, or, in some cases, complicit. It is your responsibility to protect your family, your business, and your assets.

This is not an overreaction.

This is reality.

  • Crime is in our schools.
  • Crime is in our hospitals.
  • Crime is sitting in boardrooms and walking freely in our streets.
  • And crime is being funded, protected, and enabled by those we once trusted to stop it.
Stop being passive. Security is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

We are not safe unless we make ourselves safer. Wake up. Ask the hard questions. Get the assessment. Make a plan. Because no one is coming to save you.

South Africa is bleeding. But if enough of us start taking security seriously (not as a checkbox, not as a product, but as a mindset), maybe we can stop the rot from reaching our homes next.

As of July 2025, there is no evidence of a new 2025 Global Organized Crime Index score for South Africa. In the 2023 Global Organized Crime Index, South Africa scored 7.18 out of 10 for criminality, ranking it 7 out of 193 countries globally and 3 in Africa for organized crime. This score represents a significant increase from the 2021 score of 6.63, indicating a worsening situation. The Index highlights that South Africa is a major outlier in Southern Africa, with pervasive criminal markets and highly interconnected criminal networks, including those embedded within the state. Only Myanmar, Colombia, Mexico, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria scored higher.
